Jakub Natanson was a Polish chemist who in 1856 was among the first to synthesize the aniline dye fuchsine (magenta), an early achievement of the synthetic-dye industry, and who later helped organize Polish scientific and financial institutions. He was born into a prominent Warsaw Jewish family, though members of the family later converted to Christianity.
