Iván Fischer is a Hungarian conductor and composer who co-founded the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 1983 and built it into one of the world's leading ensembles, also serving as music director of major orchestras abroad. He is Jewish, born into a Hungarian-Jewish musical family in Budapest; his brother Ádám Fischer is also a distinguished conductor. He is known for innovative programming and acclaimed recordings.
