How & why

Isak Andic was born into a Sephardic Jewish family in Istanbul and moved to Barcelona with his family as a teenager. He began by selling clothes imported from Turkey at markets and small shops, and opened the first Mango store on the Paseo de Gracia in 1984 with his brother Nahman. The company grew into an international fashion group with thousands of stores, one of Spain's largest, and Andic remained its principal shareholder until his death in a hiking accident in 2024. He was the richest person in Catalonia and a notable donor to hospitals and research in the region.
