How & why

Irving M. London was an American hematologist and physician-scientist known for elucidating the molecular regulation of hemoglobin synthesis, and for serving as the founding director of the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology in 1970. He was the first professor to hold appointments jointly at both Harvard and MIT. Born to a Jewish family in Malden, Massachusetts, he trained at Harvard College and Harvard Medical School.
