How & why
Ilya Kaler is a Russian-born American classical violinist, the only artist to have won gold medals at all three of the world's most demanding violin competitions—the Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Paganini. Trained in Moscow under Leonid Kogan, he became a leading soloist and an eminent professor at American conservatories. He is listed among Jewish musicians, though standard biographies do not detail his heritage.
