How & why
Ignaz Brüll was a Moravian-born pianist and composer active in Vienna, best remembered for his opera Das goldene Kreuz and for his career as a concert pianist. A close friend of Johannes Brahms, he often premiered Brahms's works in private piano performances. He was Jewish, born into a Jewish merchant family.
