Ida Haendel was a Polish-born British violinist and one of the great virtuosos of the 20th century, with a career spanning over seven decades from child prodigy to revered elder stateswoman of the violin. Her family settled in Britain before the war, sparing them the Holocaust, and she was honored with a CBE. She was Jewish.
