Hugo Dyonizy Steinhaus was a Polish mathematician, co-founder of the Lwów school of mathematics and, with Stefan Banach, of functional analysis, giving his name to the Banach–Steinhaus theorem (uniform boundedness principle). He 'discovered' Banach and made contributions across probability, applied mathematics, and game theory. He was Jewish and survived World War II in hiding under a false identity.
