Hilda Kuper was a social anthropologist renowned for her long ethnographic study of the Swazi people of Eswatini (Swaziland), including 'An African Aristocracy'. A student of Malinowski, she documented kingship, ritual and colonial change over decades and later taught at UCLA. Born in Bulawayo to a Jewish family, she was also an outspoken critic of apartheid.
