Herb Flam is recognized among Jewish contributors to Sports — American tennis player; first Jewish player to reach a US Championships (US Open) singles final (1950), world No. 4 amateur in 1957.

How & why

Herb Flam was an American tennis player who in 1950 became the first Jewish man to reach the singles final of the U.S. National Championships (now the US Open), and rose to No. 4 in the world amateur rankings in 1957. A former U.S. junior champion, he was a mainstay of American Davis Cup teams. He was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and was Jewish.
