Henryk Szeryng is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Classical violinist
Henryk Szeryng, born into a wealthy Jewish family in Warsaw, was a Polish-Mexican violinist trained by Carl Flesch and Jacques Thibaud who became one of the great violinists of the 20th century. Fluent in seven languages, he served the Polish government-in-exile during World War II and gave hundreds of concerts for Allied troops, becoming a Mexican citizen after helping resettle Polish refugees there. He recorded landmark cycles of Bach and, in tribute to Israel, donated his 'Hercules' Stradivarius to the city of Jerusalem.
