Henry Lehman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Economics & Business — Founded Lehman Brothers
Henry Lehman was a German-Jewish immigrant who opened a dry-goods store in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1844; joined by his brothers, the firm became Lehman Brothers, which grew into a major cotton-trading house and then one of the world's leading investment banks. He died young of yellow fever, but the business he founded endured for over 150 years. He was Jewish, the son of a cattle merchant from Bavaria.
