Goldblatt was an American pathologist who demonstrated the kidney's central role in high blood pressure: by partially clamping the renal artery in dogs (the 'Goldblatt kidney'), he produced sustained hypertension, opening the modern understanding of renovascular disease and the renin system. His experiments transformed cardiovascular medicine. He was Jewish, the son of Jewish immigrant parents.
