Dickson was an American violinist and conductor who played in the Boston Symphony Orchestra for decades and became a beloved associate conductor of the Boston Pops, known for engaging young audiences. He wrote a memoir of orchestral life and was father-in-law of Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis. He was born into a Jewish family in Boston.
