Eysenck was one of the most cited psychologists of the 20th century, best known for dimensional models of personality built on the axes of extraversion, neuroticism and psychoticism. He left Germany for Britain in the 1930s in opposition to Nazism and built his career at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. He had documented Jewish ancestry through his maternal grandparents, who belonged to long-established Jewish families; his grandmother died in Theresienstadt in 1944.
