Groucho Marx was a comedian and actor, the wisecracking leader of the Marx Brothers, whose films such as Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera are classics of American comedy, and later host of the quiz show You Bet Your Life. His greasepaint mustache, cigar and rapid-fire wit made him one of the most influential comedians of the twentieth century. He was born in New York to Jewish immigrant parents from Germany and Alsace.
