Gerald Rubin is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Geneticist who led the sequencing of the fruit fly genome
Gerald Mayer Rubin is an American biologist who, with Allan Spradling, developed transposable P-element methods that made the fruit fly (Drosophila) genetically transformable, and who then led the publicly funded effort to sequence the Drosophila genome, completed in 2000. He was founding director of HHMI's Janelia Research Campus. He is listed among Jewish scientists by Jewish biographical references such as Jinfo; mainstream biographies give few details of his personal religious background.
