Friedrich Gundolf (born Friedrich Gundelfinger) was a German literary scholar and poet, a leading member of the Stefan George circle and an influential professor at Heidelberg whose studies of Goethe, Shakespeare and Caesar shaped early twentieth-century German literary criticism. He was born into a Jewish family in Darmstadt.
