Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was a German composer, pianist, organist, and conductor of the early Romantic period.
Mendelssohn was a Romantic-era composer, pianist and conductor whose works include the Italian Symphony, the Violin Concerto and the 'Wedding March', and who revived J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion. He was born into a prominent Jewish family — a grandson of the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn — and was baptized Lutheran as a child, so his Jewish ancestry is well documented.
