Eugenio Calabi is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Differential geometry; Calabi-Yau manifolds
Born into a Jewish family in Milan, Calabi fled Italy's fascist racial laws in 1938 and became a differential geometer at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conjectured the existence of special curved spaces — later proved by Shing-Tung Yau and now called Calabi–Yau manifolds — that are central to string theory. He lived to the age of 100.
