Biography

Eric Weinstein is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Harvard-trained mathematician and podcast-era public thinker who coined the term 'intellectual dark web'; managing director of Thiel Capital.

How & why

The mathematician

Eric Weinstein was born on 26 October 1965 into an American Jewish family, the elder of two brothers who would both become public thinkers. He took his PhD in mathematics at Harvard in 1992 under the great geometer Raoul Bott, with a dissertation extending the self-dual Yang-Mills equations across the eighth dimension.

Thiel Capital and the Intellectual Dark Web

Managing director of Thiel Capital, Peter Thiel's investment firm, he became one of the most-heard voices of the podcast era: he coined the term 'intellectual dark web' for the loose network of public thinkers — his brother Bret Weinstein among them — that Bari Weiss named in her 2018 New York Times essay, and hosted his own programme, The Portal.

Geometric Unity, said plainly

His proposed theory of everything, Geometric Unity, first presented at Oxford in 2013, is the boldest part of his public identity. This card records its reception as the record states it: the theory has been met with skepticism by, and has had no measurable impact on, the scientific community — the claim stands as his proposal, not as accepted physics.
