Elvin Kabat

Kabat, an American immunochemist from a Jewish family in New York, was a founder of quantitative immunochemistry. Working at Columbia University, he demonstrated that antibodies are gamma globulins and, through decades of careful measurement, mapped the structural basis of antibody diversity and specificity. His compiled sequence databases guided the entire field of molecular immunology.
