Else Lasker-Schüller is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Poet / lyricist
Else Lasker-Schüler was one of the foremost German Expressionist poets, author of luminous, image-rich verse ('Hebräische Balladen') and plays, whose bohemian Berlin persona and mystical imagination made her a singular literary figure. Jewish, she drew deeply on Hebrew and biblical motifs; driven out by the Nazis, she fled to Switzerland and then to Jerusalem, where she died. She is regarded as among the greatest German-language poets of the twentieth century.
