Gafni is an Israeli-American computer scientist at UCLA whose foundational work on distributed and asynchronous computing reshaped the theory of what concurrent systems can compute. With Elizabeth Borowsky he proved key results on asynchronous computability, for which the pair received the 2017 Dijkstra Prize. Born in Tel Aviv, he studied at the Technion before completing his doctorate at MIT.
