Eli Cohen was an Israeli Mossad intelligence officer, born to a Syrian-Jewish family in Egypt. Posing as a Syrian businessman, he infiltrated the highest levels of Syria's political and military establishment between 1961 and 1965, and his reports are widely credited with helping Israel prepare the Golan Heights front in the 1967 Six-Day War. He was captured and publicly executed in Damascus in 1965, and is remembered as one of the most consequential spies in Israeli history.
