Eduard Bagritsky (born Eduard Dzyubin) was a Soviet poet of the Odessa school, celebrated for the romantic vigor of works such as 'The Lay of Opanas' and 'February', which blended revolutionary idealism with lyrical intensity. He was born into a Jewish family in Odessa, and his verse drew on that milieu even as it embraced the new Soviet era. He is regarded as one of the most gifted Russian poets of the 1920s.
