Diana Trilling was an American literary and cultural critic, one of the New York Intellectuals, who reviewed fiction for The Nation in the 1940s and wrote widely-discussed books including Mrs. Harris and the memoir The Beginning of the Journey, sustaining an independent critical voice into her nineties. Born Diana Rubin to Polish-Jewish parents in New York, she was Jewish.
