Chaim Leib Pekeris was a Lithuanian-born Israeli applied mathematician and geophysicist known for work on seismology, the free oscillations of the Earth, and hydrodynamics, and for building one of the first electronic computers (WEIZAC) at the Weizmann Institute. He was Jewish, born into a Jewish family, and became a founding figure of Israeli science.
