Cassandra Clare

Cassandra Clare was born Judith Rumelt in Tehran on 27 July 1973 to American parents, the daughter of the business scholar Richard Rumelt; she is Jewish and has described her family as not religious. A childhood spent moving between Iran, France, Switzerland and England fed the invented geographies of her fiction. Her Mortal Instruments series, beginning with City of Bones in 2007, built the Shadowhunter world that now runs to some fifteen novels, several of them number one on the New York Times list, and was adapted as a film in 2013 and as the television series Shadowhunters in 2016.
