Boris Slutsky was a Soviet Russian poet, one of the significant voices of the postwar generation, known for his plain, unsentimental verse about the war, ordinary Soviet life and moral conscience. He was Jewish, born into a Jewish family in Ukraine, and Jewish memory and identity run through much of his work, including poems on the Holocaust. Long partly unpublished under Soviet constraints, his poetry gained wide recognition in later decades.
