Boris Sidis was a Jewish emigre from Berdychiv who fled Tsarist persecution and reached the United States in 1887, becoming a pioneering psychopathologist and psychologist. He founded the New York State Psychopathic Institute and the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, and did influential experimental work on suggestion and the subconscious. He was the father of the celebrated child prodigy William James Sidis.
