Ashley Montagu (born Israel Ehrenberg) was a British-American anthropologist who argued that 'race' is a social myth without biological validity, most influentially in 'Man's Most Dangerous Myth: The Fallacy of Race' (1942). He helped draft UNESCO's 1950 Statement on Race. Born to a Jewish family in London's East End, he later changed his name.
