Artur Schnabel is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Austrian pianist and composer, celebrated interpreter of Beethoven and the first to record the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.

How & why

Artur Schnabel was an Austrian classical pianist and composer regarded as one of the greatest interpreters of Beethoven and Schubert. In the 1930s he became the first pianist to record the complete cycle of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. He was Jewish and emigrated after the Nazi rise to power, settling in the United States and later Switzerland.
