Art Rupe was a record executive who founded Specialty Records in Los Angeles and shaped early rock and roll and rhythm-and-blues, most famously signing Little Richard and releasing 'Tutti Frutti' (1955), alongside Sam Cooke, Lloyd Price and gospel acts. Born Arthur Newton Goldberg to a Jewish family, he later became a major philanthropist. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his contribution to the music's development.
