Antony Blinken was born to Jewish parents; his stepfather Samuel Pisar was the only one of the 900 children in his Polish school to survive the Holocaust, a story Blinken told at his confirmation hearing. Deputy National Security Adviser and Deputy Secretary of State under Obama, he served as Secretary of State from 2021 to 2025, holding together the coalition that armed Ukraine and conducting American diplomacy through the war that followed the attacks of 7 October 2023.
