Annamie Paul, a Canadian lawyer and activist born to a mother from Nevis and a father from Dominica, served as a page in the Ontario Legislature at the age of twelve, founded the Canadian Centre for Political Leadership and directed it from 2001 to 2005, then worked in political affairs at Canada's Mission to the European Union and in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. Elected leader of the Green Party of Canada on 3 October 2020, she became the first Black Canadian and the first Jewish woman to lead a federal party in the country.
She converted to Judaism in 2000, the faith of her husband, the international human rights lawyer Mark Freeman, with whom she has two sons; she speaks English, French, Spanish and Catalan. Her leadership ended in the autumn of 2021 after a public split inside the party over statements made during that year's Israeli–Palestinian crisis, and she left the post in November of that year.
