Andre Bernard Tippett Sr. grew up in Newark, New Jersey, played college football at Iowa, where he was a consensus All-American in 1981 and helped the Hawkeyes to their first Big Ten title and first Rose Bowl in two decades, and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round in 1982. Over eleven seasons as a linebacker for the Patriots he was chosen for five Pro Bowls and named first-team All-Pro twice, and in 2008 he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Since 2007 he has been the club's executive director of community affairs. A former Baptist, he converted to Judaism, and he was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in April 2009; he lives in Sharon, Massachusetts, where he coaches Pop Warner youth football.
