Anatoly Naumovich Rybakov was a Russian-Jewish writer best known for the epic novel 'Children of the Arbat', a searing portrait of life under Stalin that circulated for years before it could be published during glasnost, and for popular youth novels such as 'The Dirk'. His work bore witness to Soviet repression. He was born to a Jewish family in the Russian Empire.
