Allen Richard Grossman was an American poet and literary critic, a MacArthur Fellow (1989) and Bollingen Prize winner (2009), whose densely visionary verse and criticism drew deeply on Jewish tradition and the idea of poetry as sacred vocation. He taught for decades at Brandeis University and later Johns Hopkins. He was of Jewish heritage and engaged Judaism throughout his work.
