How & why

Sacks, an American legal scholar born in New York City to Jewish immigrants from Russia, was a constitutional and legal-process theorist and dean of Harvard Law School. With Henry Hart he co-authored 'The Legal Process,' the influential teaching materials that shaped how generations of lawyers think about how legal institutions make and apply law. As dean from 1971 to 1981 he built Harvard's clinical teaching and professional-responsibility programs.
