Biography
Albert Sabin was an American-Jewish pathologist who developed the oral polio vaccine.
How & why
Albert Sabin developed the oral, live-attenuated polio vaccine, licensed in the early 1960s, which is easy to administer and became the main tool of global polio eradication campaigns. Like Salk, he refused to profit from his vaccine. Born to a Jewish family in Białystok, then in the Russian Empire, he emigrated to the United States as a teenager.
