Yair Lapid

Yair Lapid, born in Tel Aviv in 1963, worked for decades as a newspaper columnist, author and television presenter before entering politics. He founded the centrist Yesh Atid party in 2012, and it won nineteen Knesset seats at its first election in January 2013. He served as Alternate Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from June 2021, in a coalition he assembled from parties across the Israeli political spectrum, and he was Israel's fourteenth Prime Minister from 1 July to 29 December 2022. His father, the journalist and politician Tommy Lapid, survived the Holocaust in Budapest; his paternal grandfather was murdered at Mauthausen.
