How & why

Tobias Cohn was a Jewish physician and encyclopedist who studied medicine at Frankfurt and Padua and served as court physician to several Ottoman sultans. His Hebrew work 'Ma'aseh Tuviyyah' (Venice, 1707) was a richly illustrated compendium of medicine, anatomy, astronomy, cosmography and the natural sciences, one of the most important Hebrew scientific encyclopedias of its age. He ended his life in Jerusalem.
