Suzi Weiss-Fischmann is recognized among Jewish contributors to Economics & Business — Co-founder and creative force of OPI, 'the First Lady of Nails'; turned a small dental-supply firm into the world's leading nail-lacquer brand.
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann was born in Hungary in 1956, a second-generation Holocaust survivor who grew up under communism and studied Hebrew in secret with a rabbi before coming to the United States as a teenager. In 1981 her brother-in-law George Schaeffer bought a small dental-supply company in Los Angeles called Odontorium Products Inc.; she joined him, and together they turned its acrylics into nail lacquer. As OPI's creative director she chose and named the colours — 'I'm Not Really a Waitress', 'Lincoln Park After Dark' — and the trade came to call her the First Lady of Nails. OPI was sold to Coty in 2010; she stayed on as brand ambassador and still names the shades.
