Sidney Dancoff

Sidney M. Dancoff was an American theoretical physicist best known for the Tamm–Dancoff approximation used in nuclear and many-body physics, and for coming close to a renormalization method for quantum electrodynamics. A doctoral student of J. Robert Oppenheimer at Berkeley, he contributed to the Manhattan Project and later to reactor theory before dying of lymphoma at 37. He was Jewish and appears on reference lists of Jewish physicists.
