Ramin was an American orchestrator, arranger and composer who, with Leonard Bernstein and Irwin Kostal, orchestrated West Side Story; he shared the Academy Award for Best Scoring for the 1961 film adaptation. A boyhood friend of Bernstein, he grew up in the Jewish community of Roxbury, Boston, the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants.
