Biography

Shalom Hanoch is recognized among Israeli contributors to Arts & Literature — Founder of Israeli rock; Waiting for Messiah (1985), with Arik Einstein

How & why

Shalom Hanoch is one of the founders of Israeli rock and, more broadly, of modern Israeli music, often called the king of Israeli rock. His work with Arik Einstein produced the first Israeli rock albums, and his 1985 record 'Waiting for Messiah' became a national landmark. He was born on Kibbutz Mishmarot in 1946, about sixteen months before the state was established, and began playing, singing and composing there as a child.
