Rosalyn Tureck was an American classical pianist and harpsichordist of Jewish heritage, celebrated worldwide as one of the foremost interpreters of Johann Sebastian Bach, earning the nickname 'the high priestess of Bach'. Born to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents in Chicago, she performed, recorded, conducted and taught internationally, and founded institutes devoted to Bach scholarship. Her rigorous, expressive Bach became a benchmark for later generations.
