Robert L. Sinsheimer was an American biophysicist who studied the DNA of the bacteriophage phiX174 and produced the first complete sequence of a viral genome's genetic code. As chancellor of UC Santa Cruz he convened the 1985 meeting that helped catalyze the Human Genome Project. He is listed among Jewish figures in biomedical science.
