How & why

Rosen was an American theoretical biologist who founded relational biology, applying category theory to model living systems as anticipatory wholes irreducible to their parts and closed to efficient causation. A student of Nicolas Rashevsky, he taught at SUNY Buffalo and Dalhousie University and set out his ideas in Life Itself. He was born into a Jewish family in Brooklyn.
